Underage marriage in 1802 - and who is that William Morgan, witness?

Can anyone tell me about age requirements for marriage in 1802? William Mitchell married Martha Chant in St Mary Islington. Martha was born 4 June 1785, so she was about 17 at the time of the marriage. There's no note indicating parental consent - would it have been required? What about licence (they married by banns)?

Also, if anyone could find out more about the first witness, William Morgan, that might be so helpful! Sister Sarah is the second witness.

I was talking to my Dads youngest sister and told her of my family history search and how i had got loads of stuff off my Mum's side but very little from Dad's. My aunt said she had a parcel of family certificates and photo's that belongs to the family and promptly invited me to go and have a look at them, with a view me keeping them, as no one else is interested in them.
As you can guess, I can hardly wait to see what there is.:)

Edwin Henry Hooker - what happened to him after 1891?

I have a thread about this individual over at the Genealogists' Forum, but I wanted to raise the topic here so as to bring in a wider group of people and hopefully find some answers... although I'm not feeling optimistic.

So far I have only found two pieces of evidence relating to Edwin:

1) His birth was registered in Egham:

Births Dec 1883

HOOKER Edwin Henry Windsor 2c 429

2) He appears on the 1891 census with his (possible) father.

Much of the thread I linked to above is about Edwin's father's housekeeper, who may or may not have been Edwin's mother. At some point I will probably order the birth certificate, as it would be nice to confirm this either way, but even knowing who his parents were is unlikely to help me trace what happened to him after the 1891 census.

I cannot find any marriages or deaths relating to that name; I've tried all manner of searches with various criteria but can't seem to get anywhere. No doubt there are numerous possibilities as to what could have happened to him, but it's all speculation at this point.

Any ideas? Can anyone help me find out who Edwin was, and what became of him?

Could somebody please confirm that it is not just my ability to access the 1939 register, and that if you go to http://ift.tt/25waskA and look at the original image, all the pages after this one gives the result "Unable to open [object Object]: HTTP 404 attempting to load TileSource" ie pages 5 to 13 are not accessable.
I have reported this to Findmypast several times in the past 5 weeks but there is no change, so was wondering if it was just me.

Can anyone point me in the direction of researching a Music Hall artist.

I have found several other distant relatives via google searches, but wondered if there was an actual archive.

I have found a 1914 passenger list where a relative has cited their occupation as a 'Music Hall artist' and she appears to be travelling amongst a company of fellow artists.

The lady in question is Cecilia Clarissa Jay who became Catling on her marriage.
The passenger list cites her name as Cecilia Jay.
On her divorce, she changed her name and was known as Cecilia Cecille.

There are 2 other actresses within the era Isobel Jay, who at present isn't linked to my ancestors and Maud Marion Jay, who is.

This is my grandmother; I have her birth certificate but I cant find her birth registration probably because of poor transcription again.
Additionally I cant find her in the 1891 census and would appreciate help in finding her. She never moved out of Liverpool and married (badly) in 1898.

Tobias & Mary Bowles and children, Gosport, Hampshire 1781-1788

Hi,

I'm new to this site so please forgive me if I make any mistakes. I am doing research on Tobias Bowles b. 1743 and family. I have some information but looking for additional to confirm his connection. Tobias and Mary had Catherine b. 1781 d. 1781, Leonard b. 1782 d. 1782, Dorothea b. 1783 d. 1783, Charles b. 1784 and Elizabeth b. 1787 d. 1787 all I think all were baptised in Holy Trinity Gosport and were buried in Rowner. I can't find the death for Charles and Mary, his wife, who died by 1792. Tobias worked for the Sick and Hurt Office for seamen. It looks like he spent a few years in Haslar Hospital but the other years in Tower-Hill and Somerset Place, London.

Tobias should have been a very wealthy man but he seems to have given up his business as a sugar refiner and took on a job as a clerk in the Sick and Hurt Office from 1782 - 1786 and 1788 - 1797. I know his brother Leonard was a mariner who changed sides during the American Revolution and might have been captured and sent to Forton prison and landed up in Haslar Hospital. This could explain why Tobias took a position as clerk in Haslar. This would have allowed him a way to look after his brother.

I need help and if needed, I'm willing to pay someone to do research. I have paid for research in Guensey and Hertfordshire and traced my wife's Bowles line back to 1658.

Your help and guidance would be greatly appreciated

this time its Arthur Charles who's missing in 1911.
He was born in 1880 Leicester, parents John (musician) and Ann
I've found him in 1881, 1891 and 1901 ... he died in 1923 (43) Maidstone.
I've also found his military record 1896-1900
and several criminal convictions between 1895, 1902-1905 ... an habitual thief

Any information about him between 1911 - 1923 would be very much appreciated ... not sure if he married or not.
His intended address upon release from prison in 1909 was Cardiff / occ; baker

Hi all,

I am asking if anyone can find a newspaper death notice or an obituary for Peter Ward, who died on 25th November, 1969 in New York, aged 63.
I have details of where he is buried and there is a picture of his headstone on FindaGrave.com. His wife Agnes Ward was still alive when he died (she died on 5th January 1979) so I am hoping that a death notice was placed or an obituary written.

my laptop is playing up -
the bottom section about 15mm deep has the windows in the bottom left hand corner - Firefox in the centre and Google Chrome in the centre .....when I try to click on any of these 3 I get no response ??
I cannot get my Yahoo.com e mails on Google - only on Firefox ...
I even thought of taking the Laptop back a week on System Restore - but I can't even do that as I can't open up the Control Panel because when I click on the Windows logo nothing happens ????

Rauch,Rausch,Rusch-Researching our German,Russian and possibly Hungarian Roots

Hi Everyone!

My name is Chriss Rusch i am our family's genealogist and we are researching our ancestral history. Thanks to The AHSGR we have recently learned our most distant known ancestor on my father's side was Ludwig Rauch b approx 1716. He and his wife Anna immigrated to Dobrinka,Russia in 1765. They had documentation in Lubeck,Germany that they were from Tab or Tag Austria. This was also documented in OranienBaum,Russia their final port prior to departing to Dobrinka.

We have made some interesting yet unconfirmed connections of Rauch,Rausch Family's from Hesse,Germany..........in particular from the Bleichenbach area near Selters and Ortenberg. One family in particular is Johann Georg Rauch b 1662? and his wife Anna Katharina Glas who immigrated with their 7 children to or near Keszohidegkut.Tolna County,Hungary in 1722. Tab,Somogy County,Hungary is located approximately 34 from Keszohidegkut and it is my thoughts that Ludwig choose Tab as his town of origin because he could not spell much less pronounce Keszohidegkut!!

I have DNA with FamilyTreeDNA and at this writing still have not made a Rauch/Rausch/Rusch genetic connection yet. I have though made an indirect Rauch connection with a Rauch family in the 1600's-1700's in Odernheim,Pfaltz,Rheinland,Germany via Ancestry.comDNA. I have submitted for a DNA test on Ancestry to confirm or relationship.

If you might have any information on where to search for additional information on our family ancestry we would appreciate any help you may be able to provide, including church records in Hesse......and others who are searching Rauch/Rausch/Rusch Family Heritage and or those Surnames who have YDNA or autosomal DNA

We have a GREAT deal of Family Tree info from Ludwig Rauch 1765 who was one of the ORIGINAL settlers in Dobrinka in the Volga region all the way to our granpa Alexander Rusch who immigrated to Colorado in 1913.We also have detailed Peil Family Tree information of our gramma Molly Peil-Rusch who immigrated from Holstein & Dobrinka to Colorado in 1909. We would be happy to share this info with our confirmed distant relatives throughout the world.

Too much of a coincidence?

I am just wondering your opinion!

I have written quite a few threads on here on my search to find my grandfather, and I think I have, but I am just wondering if there is a concrete way of knowing for sure that it is him, besides DNA. I think it is because him and my grandmother share so many similar aspects of life, and I would like your opinion on if all these things are TOO much of a coincidence... thank you!

Let me preface this by saying that they never were married and I do not believe he knew of the birth of my mother. I am sure they cut off contact shortly after my grandmother found out she was pregnant.

Via my mothers birth certificate, the fathers name is stated as JAMES JOSEPH CUNNINGHAM, aged 23 (as of Jan 1941) , born in Philadelphia. I found a match for a James FRANCIS Cunningham that matched age parameters and lived in close quarters to my grandmother. He lived in 1920 at 128 Dudley Street, and in 1930, he lived at 1909 South 2nd Street. (The corner over, basically moved less then a block). In 1940, he lived at 1834 South 2nd Street, just a bit more up the block. He is about two blocks from Dudley Street (a very small street, Philadelphia - wise) now in 1940. But, he had relatives living on Dudley Street on and past 1940, which would mean he was likely on Dudley Street often.

My grandmother lived with her grandparents and parents across town in 1930. Her mother died in 1933, however, and they were living at 116 Dudley Street then, via her mothers death certificate. In 1940, I cannot find them in the census, but I assume they stayed at Dudley Street. Even if they moved between 1933 and 1940, I know that her father died in 1953 and was living 4 Blocks from Dudley Street, on Pierce Street.

The only things that do not match are the middle name and the age. This match would have turned 24 about three months before my mothers birth, but, if they cut off contact when my grandmother knew she was pregnant, that would explain her saying he was 23 and not 24 on the birth certificate. Also, the birth certificate says James JOSEPH, not Francis, Cunningham. But, I read that often names were orally told by mothers to record keepers at the hospitals, and there was a lot of room for error. I do not even think James knew of my mothers birth / was at the hospital during her birth, so a mistaken middle name would make sense.

They lived just houses away, and almost all the parameters match. What do you think? Is this too much of a coincidence?

On my parents marriage certificate my mother's name is down as Kathleen Hayes but I can't find any details about her anywhere. I can however find details of a Catherine Hayes which seem to tie in with my mother. Does this mean my mother changed her name? All the family knew her as Katie or Kit.

Problems with Brown v Eccles history 1800's

Hi

My great grandfather William Brown married Elizabeth Eccles but I cannot find any trace of it nor can I find details of their births.

Elizabeth was born between 1847 and 1850 in Manchester according to the census. In the 1901 census her name is listed as Mary E Brown but all her other details are the same.

William Brown was born 1848 and 1851 in Salford according to the census.

I know they had a child Sarah Alice Brown about 1866-1867 born in Manchester.

My grandfather John Brown was born in July 1869 born in Manchester.

I cannot find any children born to them before Sarah Alice and I could obtain her birth certificate but cannot see how it would help with the marriage search.

Any advice or help please.

Record Office: McMULLEN'S OF BELFAST

Hi Elwyn - I have been researching my McMullen family in Belfast for some time. They are Patrick b.1814 and wife Sarah Ann Walsh b.1806. I had them down with 4 children, William b.1839, Sarah Ann b.1833, John Bartholomew b. 1841 and Patrick b.1843. I have recently discovered another child Mary b.1836 and suspect there may be others undiscovered. I wonder if Mary and possible other children died early as I haven't come across her name before but can't find a definite death record for her. I'm also searching for Patrick's father who I believe was John Patrick McMullen b.1783 although I have no definite documentation for him and who his mother was. The family were baptised and married in St Patrick's RC church Belfast and I have them down in the diocese of Down & Connor. Any further information would be greatly appreciated.:)

Need your opinion

I believe I have found a match for my grandfather in the census records, but I would like some other opinion.

Everything matches up, except the middle name. On my mother`s birth cert, it says her fathers name is James JOSEPH Cunningham.

This match is James FRANCIS Cunningham.

I would normally rule this match out, but after research, he lived a few doors down (116 Dudley Street, my grandmother lived at 128 Dudley Street, Philadelphia)
from my grandmother in 1930 & 1940. My mom was born in 1941.

So my question is - could this just be a coincidence, or is the birth certificate wrong and his middle name is Francis? Is this him? And let me add that they were never married - it is doubtful he was even AT the birth of my mother.

Oh these strange names!!

Why oh why did my ancestors insist on giving their children such odd names. You would think they would be easy to find, but I think some of them decided to change their names, probably to something more 'normal'. I have one now that I want to add to my tree, but I don't even know whether it was a boy or a girl. No marriage or death to be found. Has anyone come across this Christian name before, or wants to make a guess what sex it was please? If you can find them anywhere too that would be wonderful. I know their parents etc (Benjamin Heaps and Jane nee Clayton), it's just forward I can't go.

Missing siblings

I took a trip to my great grandfather and great grandmother`s grave in Philadelphia and saw two other gravestones, for two people, who presumably are their children. I had heard of the two "ghost siblings", as 'Doc" & "Maggie" - and the sibling graves I found were Stanley Schubert, and Maggie Schubert. Not married, defiantly siblings, and children of my great grandparents. I cannot find ANY matching records for these two. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thank you.

I'm transcribing a will from 1716, a brother, half brother and 12 nephews and nieces are left a shilling apiece. Was this just sticking two fingers up at his family or would they have been grateful for that sum? Everything else went to his wife & sole Executrix other than 5 shillings apiece to his dear friend Christopher Foard of Sutton and John Charman of Pulborough for "aiding & assisting" his executrix.

I am trying to find some(any) information on my late mother's cousin, Grace Cannon who was born in Philadelphia USA on 25/8/1922 or 25/9/1922(I've seen both mentioned) and died on 21st June 1940, aged just 17.
My mother had 6 uncles(3 brothers of her father and 3 brothers of her mother) who emigrated to USA between 1905 and 1925 and never returned to Ireland.
I have found records on many of their descendants, but my thoughts keep returning to Grace,presumably because she died so young. She was the daughter of Patrick Cannon and Mary (Duffy) Cannon.I have located her in the 1940 US census(just a couple of months before she passed away) living with her family at 1435 25th Street, Philidelphia.
I suppose what I'm looking for is a newspaper death notice or obituary(I know she was probably too young for an obituary), or details of the death certificate or anything really. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Where next with Irish brick wall?

I’ve been researching my Paternal “Dillon” line for just over two years now and my documentary research and family lore all agrees that my Dillons originally came from Ireland. I've researched a detailed tree going back from myself to my 3X Gt Grandfather Patrick Dillon (born about 1818-1822) who moved to Manchester from Ireland (precise location unknown) in about the 1820s or 30s (probably the 1830s). I know that Patrick had a brother called Luke who was in Manchester as well and that their Father was called Patrick and was a farmer somewhere in Ireland. Unfortunately that is as far back as my knowledge goes and I've been stuck at this brick wall for well over a year now.

No-one in my family knows any further information and I have tested my Y-DNA to look for matches but I didn't have any matches at all with FTDNA. I'm starting to feel that I've exhausted all online records (including the newly released Irish Catholic registers but with no luck at getting further back. I feel absolutely stuck at the moment and would really appreciate some advice as to what to do next.

German Army Uniform?

I have been searching for my grandfather for about I believe almost two years now, and I am at a brick wall.

I have searched census records, bmd records, and every record in my power, and cannot find anything that matches.

The only information I have is from my mothers birth certificate, which about the father, just states the following.

Name : JAMES JOSEPH CUNNINGHAM

AGE : 23

BORN : PHILADELPHIA PA

So my question is, does anyone know where to go from here? I have exhausted everywhere I know to look.

Stockton Police Court 1880

Hi Everyone,

I am still trying to establish the exact DOB of my Great Grandfather William Greenwood. He was born between 1844 and 1845 in either the Stockton, Middlesbrough or Sunderland area.

More details can be found in my original Thread on this matter dated 13.12.2011. However, in the meantime I have received a newspaper cutting from a fellow member of FTF, which appeared in the Middlesbrough Daily Gazette on the 21. April 1880.

On the a/m date, my Greatgrandfather appeared before the Stockton Police Court charged with assault.

Does any FT member or Guest have access to these Court Records from 1880?

If so, I am hoping that William's DOB and maybe other useful info for my research, will be recorded on the charge sheet.

Any help in this matter would be much appreciated.

Looking for more information on the woman who I believe was possibly the wife of my grandfather. From the 1940 census, they are living together.

I immediately then searched Philadelphia marriage records, but found no match.
I found her in the SSDI, born November 1, 1919, and dying in February of 1986, in Philly.

Just wondering if there is any place online to search for more records for their marriage or surrounding life, as I cannot find any.

I have found a marriage certificate for William Green and Elizabeth Mary Collicott for September 20th 1902. It does not have an address for William but says
P of St Martin Kennington. I wonder if anyone can give an opinion of why there is no address.
Also his father is Henry Green and says he is a farmer however on Williams baptism it says Henry is a traveller.

Emma Margaret COATH, nee CLIFFE 1853- ? where are you hiding?

I revisited this mystery in my tree yesterday and got a little further but need the FTF bloodhounds on the trail!

Emma Margaret CLIFFE, my GT grandfather's cousin was born 25 June 1853, baptised 17 July 1853 daughter of Alfred Cliffe at St Thomas, Charterhouse, Finsbury, Mddx
I have her on 1861 census and ¹871 when she was working in an asylum as a housemaid.
She gave birth to a son Sydney William CLIFE in Clerkenwel workhouse .25 Dec 1875
By 1881 she was living as wife of William COATH at 55 Half Moon Crescent Islington. No marriage found. They had a son Alfred COATH and Sydney William also took COATH as his surname.
In 1891 they were at 3 Pitt Street Pancras. Until recently I had no further sightings of Emma M COATH or of William COATH though I have Sydney William and family at 19 Ray Road Edmonton in 1901
There is a tree on Ancestry which gives 1909 as death year for both Emma and William but this not correct.
Yesterday I found Emma COATH on London electoral rolls on Ancestry, living at 7 Ray's Road until 1939, a few doors from son Sydney.
Whoopee I thought let's find her on 1939 register but she's not at number 7 and can't find a likely candidate elsewhere. Neither can I find a death for her :(

I have been researching family tree for about ten years now, the problem all I ever did was do random research with no rhyme nor reason for things at times. My final goal for all of this was to do my mother's side, my fathers side and my wife's entire side for our future children, but I am "spinning my wheels" per say in getting an organized system as well as a good program to actually get started in making a tree instead of a very disorganized mess. I am begging for some experience to come out of the woodwork and please help me some advice on anything I mentioned?

FTM 2014 - Managing Historical Events suggestions

Within FTM 2014 I was just wondering whether anyone has found a way of actually printing just the list of Historical Events actually currently saved within the program and thus will subsequently appear within an Individuals Timeline Report?

I love the way that this brings alive an ancestors life and have been busy adding some of my own Historical Events. I am also about to change some that were originally included from, say, US History to World History so that they also appear in my (UK) Ancestors Timeline Reports.

And so it was to try and see what Historical Events are already saved within the program and so hopefully avoid duplication as I add others with possible a slightly different Event description that I was just wondering if just the list of Events could be printed. Within Edit>Manage Historical Events, I did click on 'Help' at the bottom right which then seemed to give me access to a Manual with an ability to print out but not what I wanted, a list of the actual Historical Events.


Does anyone have any suggestions please?

I am researching Samuel, who was my 3rd Great Grandfather. I am unable to find any records of his birth or parents - and I'd be interested in any hints or suggestions. This is what I know so far.
Born 1786 Staffordshire. Married Ann Evans on 20th Aug 1815 at Birmingham St Martin's. Fathered 8 children between 1815 and 1831 including Moses Frankham, my 2nd Great Grandfather. In 1826, worked as a Spur Maker in Hill Street, Walsall. Died 28th May 1846 of "diseased lungs" at Rushall Street, Walsall.

She had a son Richard H Watson (outside of marriage). I believe that is why she was in there. I was wondering when she was admitted to there and how long she stayed in there. Record Office: Durham RO look up please

One Harry or Two ?

I've got a birth certificate from 1883 for a Thomas Harry Asher of Nottingham (apparently always called Harry by the family). His father is given as Louis Harry Asher. Am I correct in thinking that this Louis Harry Asher is the same person as the Harry Asher listed on his childhood census records as born in Birmingham c 1855, but having (& living with) his parents Jacob & Elizabeth Asher in Nottm ?
(On one of the census records he is at his grandmother's (also Elizabeth/Betsy Asher) in Nottm.)

Bit fogged up with departing flu, so would welcome another pair of eyes before I steam off in the wrong direction.
