I been asked by a relative to see if I can help him find any information to add to the little he knows,
he and three sisters were put into Barnardos when very young,

I can see two families on Ancestry with connections with names Robert has mentioned, he says in the earlier years it was mentioned she had a partner or married a Keating who was said to be like a step father to him as he does not know who his father was nor did Sandra and Kathleen...
Margaret was born in to her 2nd husband William Thwaite Not sure if she went into Barnardo's...
I can see on ANcestry two families one with Thwaite mentioned and one with Keating they both have connections with Australia...Step dad emigrated to Australia , seems these two trees may marriage up somewhere along the line as Robert knows bits of info from both trees...he said William Thwaite came into the family after Keating had left for Australia ...there is no mention of Robert or the siblings in either tree...can anyone help to see if these two tree's do join together, I have only the information I have given you...His Mother did Marry William Thwaite in Liverpool in 1956 aged 31 yrs.

The transcriptions are a bit odd - e.g. my grandmother has acquired Flat as one of her forenames, as has her brother who lived in the same block. However, I now know the address of the place we lived in in Farnham when I was 6 or 7.

Back in 2014 I made contact with another living Curtin Descendant on Ancestry. We swapped what little information either of us had, but couldn't find a connection. He had a Bartholomew Curtin in his family tree and so did I, a brother of my uncle Tom Curtin whe married Dinah my Mum's sister.
We made contact again just a couple of weeks ago to see if we had made any progress on the Curtin family. I decide to give him a name and address out of my late Aunty Dinah's Address book. "Mrs B. Curtin 'Hillgrove' 189 Swords Road Whitehall Dublin." This was Bartholomew Curtin and his wife Elizabeth aka Betty's new home that as a young man he 'helped' to build! However, we still didn't know what the connection was between my Aunty Dinah's husband's family and his. I knew that my uncle Tom' Father was also Thomas and they were both Carpenters

Mathew Halliday was chief physician to Catherine the Great 1765c in St Petersburg . He married Anna Regina Von Kellerman . They had 12 children . Mathew and 4 of his children died in St Petersburg.Could any one living there help with finding his Grave /Tombstone . It would be in an old cemetery ,I believe there is one but don`t know the name . Also any information on Anna`s Kellerman family would be appreciated . Anna came back to England after Mathew died .

thank you for the marriage certificate for robert whitehead. i have now found this .
a benjamin married margaret sullivan where as robert married a margaret donovan.
now margaret was born margaret o,donoghue parents andrew donoghue and margaret fallon. she was born in dublin before the family moved to cork.she was born in 1879. on her marriage to robert she states her father was andrew donovan .
i have being told because benjamin joseph was in army barracks at the time of the census 1901 and 1911 he would only show on army records . he was at Ballincollig barracks cork is there any chance somebody could check the census for the army there please to see if he was there. thank you.

Different line now! Trying to find Mary Ann Elizabeth Ebbsworth before she marries one of my 3 x great grandfathers! On the first census they are on together in 1891 she is down as being born in 1869, Blewbury, Berkshire. I cannot find her on the 1881 or the 1871. There is one (Mary Ebsworth) which says born in Middlesex and going forward to the 1891 census it's not her. There is also an Elizabeth Ann Ebbsworth 1867, Ashworth on an Ancestry tree born in Ashbury, Berkshire - could this credibly be her? Can't seem to find a marriage either? I'm sure I'm just missing something really obvious but I can't see what!

Eliza Snozwell - who is she?
Hi, I'll try not to be too long winded!
Eliza (b. 1828, Shaw, Berkshire) has an illegitimate son (only her on his birth cert.) and she is unmarried on the 1851 census. This census confuses me to start with through mis-transcriptions and the wording used for some of the (what I think are) grandchildren to the head of household! After the 1851 census I cannot find Eliza? Cannot find a marriage although she seems to come up on one but I think she is somehow a spare name of her husband has been misplaced in the register? Can anyone help at all find her after 1851?
Her son is a lodger on the 1861 census so no help there. I have also checked for a death under the name Snozwell, Snoswell and Sno***ll but no luck there either.
I would really appreciate anybody's help as I'm stumped.

Searching for a marriage
Can anyone find a marriage between Violet Bird, b 1889 Tottenham, and a Mr Leach sometime between 1911 and 1916.
Violet is with her parents and sisters in 1911 in Birmingham, and on 3 Jun 1916 gives birth to daughter Edith L Leach in Knaresborough. In the 1939 Violet is living with her sister Lily and daughter back in Birmingham, no trace of Mr Leach, and I have discovered she and Lily were already sharing a house in 1929.
I have no idea who Mr Leach was or what happened to him. Any ideas?

Marriage required
Hi all
Help please on my Gt Uncle Cyril George Bartlett. He married a Elizabeth C Green at Brentford in 1930. When i look at the London Electoral Results 1932 she is with him then but upon looking at the 1935 results he is back home in his Family home in 104 Murray road Ealing and there is a Grace Bartlett under his name and i dont have any Grace Bartlett in my Tree. In the 1962 results he is still at 104 Murray Road with his Family and also this Grace is also under his name, same in 1965, so i can only assume maybe that they are Married but i cant find a Marriage between them two, can anyone help please.

When i look at the London Electoral Results 1932 she is with him then but upon looking at the 1935 results he is back home in his Family home in 104 Murray road Ealing and there is a Grace Bartlett under his name and i dont have any Grace Bartlett in my Tree. In the 1962 results he is still at 104 Murray Road with his Family and also this Grace is also under his name, same in 1965, so i can only assume maybe that they are Married but i cant find a Marriage between them two, can anyone help please.

Mary i think should be 56 and Ann is definately 25 (mis-transcribed as 75). The thing confusing me is the son in law bit - do they mean grandson in which case who's his mother?
1861 census he's down as a lodger so that doesn't help?
If no-one can find anything then I guess i'll need to order a birth cert. for him?

Theophilus Hodgkiss - CWGC grave at Tarbert, Kilcalmonell, Scotland
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for information on a Lieutenant Theophilus Hodgkiss - service number 105833. He served in 202 Battery of 51 Anti-Tank Regt of the Royal Artillery.
He is listed as wounded on casualty list 228 (wounded on or just before 11 June 1940), part of the expeditionary forces in France according to the section heading. He appears on casualty list 404 (officers and nurses) as having died at home (presumably meaning back in England) on the 3rd Jan 1941. He appears a third time on a corrections list indicating that he died of his wounds, also on the 3rd Jan 1941. He has a CWGC headstone in Tarbert burial ground, Kilcalmonell, Argyllshire, Scotland.
Forces War Records don't have much detail for him. Find My Past has the casualty lists mentioned above. There's a picture of his headstone on the Scottish War Graves Project website but no further details.
There may be a clue, via Wikipedia, regarding 51 Anti-Tank Regiment - there is an order of battle 1939-1940 for the 51st (Highland) Division that says: 51st (West Highland) Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery (captured 12 June 1940). Perhaps Lt Hodgkiss was wounded a few days before the rest of his regiment was captured and evaculated back to England. There's roughly a 6 month gap between him being wounded in France and his death in Jan 1941.
He was born in Liverpool and his wife, Alice Louisa Vallence, came from Dorset. The army roll of honour shows his residence as London. Why would he be buried in Scotland? Was there a military hospital in the area that wounded soldiers were sent to or was it because he was part of a Scottish regiment?
Any thoughts appreciated.

Swedish research - can anyone help?
I am helping a friend with her research into her husband's family name of Grenander from Sweden. The grandfather Herman Grenander was born 1891 in Karlebo, Frederiksborg, Denmark to Frederika Grenander no father named on the baptism we have found.
We know he had a brother Gustav Grenander born 1886 probably Sweden according to an emigration record again no father named.
We are now looking for the birth of Gustav but nothing is coming up on familysearch.org and the only record showing for Gustav is a death record in Sweden which quotes his date of birth but that of course may not be correct as it would have been given by the informant.
If anyone has any ideas or can point me to a forum similar to this in Sweden where we might get help that would be great.

Constance Snozwell's father? She was born 1919, Wantage, Berkshire. I believe it is Arthur Charles (known as Charles) Snozwell. There is one born in 1894, Brentford, Middlesex which makes him old enough to marry Alice Sheppard b. 1889 which is Constance's mother. I can't find him for sure on the 1901 or 1911 census as I think there is another Arthur Charles Snozwell born at a similar time in Middlesex?!

Is it normal to take that long for it to happen?

Identification of Edmonton School Photo
I have a school photo (dated c.1896) of a 1st cousin 1x removed, and I am trying to discover the name of the secondary school that he attended, which I am almost certain was in Edmonton, Middlesex. It's a long shot, but someone may recognise the schoolmaster from other photographs. He (along with two of the boys) is also wearing a lapel badge with a distinctive shape, which could possibly be a school badge. I have attached a close up of the badge.
Other children in my family possibly attended the same school as well, but I can't begin checking admission registers until I can establish which school it is.

I have noticed that under the heading of "Registry" is the name of the County which Family Search describes as "the event place". However many entries just have the word "Principal" under this heading. What does this mean?

can anybody help me fill in the missing years please i seem to have looked everywhere without sucess thank you.

I have tried all forums on this plus looked up Ancestry and Myheritage so who knows ? maybe someone on here may be able to help.
Lylal Bartlett Born 1911 in South Ealing. This Gt Uncle of mine did exist as he was on the 1911 Census with his Parents Walter Sidney Bartlett and Sarah Clack living at 104 Murray Road Ealing Middlesex. Lylal was 4 months old at the time. For the past 3 months i have been trying to find a Birth or Death Certificate to no avail. The earliest London Electoral result i can find is in 1926 but he is not on that which makes him 15/16 in that year. Even if he was dead there should be a Death for him but nothing. While looking around in case he moved out to work as a Servant (not unsual then) i could not even find the name Lylal anywhere. This is what i would call a real stumbling block !. Anyone help ?????

Eliza bragger was b.1850, Westminster to Robert bragger and Mary Anne Morton. Her father is a harness maker and coach trimmer according to the birth certificates of their children.
She's at home with parents in 1851 and 1861. In 1868 at Christchurch in battersea she was married to her first cousin Joseph Morton, a surgical case maker. Her age is listed as 21, b.1847.
They are in the 1871 census together in newington, she claims b.1848 Westminster.
Joseph remarries in 1878 to Harriet downie.
I can't find a death for Eliza. I had thought she was the one in 1875 Lambeth but this turned out to be the wife of a James Morton, painter. Can anyone spot anything please?

Marriage of George Scott to Ellen Balmer
On the Ancestry site, there is reference to the above marriage, together with site of the church register for 1st February 1889. They were both from Canonbie in Dumfriesshire. Ellen was born around 1856.
In my family tree, the 1871 census for George Scott (blacksmith) born 1797, shows George Scott aged 18, grandson. In the 1861 census, the younger George Scott is shown as George Blyth. He was the illegitimate son of Mary Scott and Walter Blyth. Mary went on to marry Robert Vevers, and had several children, but like other illegitimate grandchildren of George Scott (the elder) George Blyth was brought up by his grandfather, and grandmother. He became known as George Scott by the time of the 1871 census.
As the extract from the above marriage is taken from church registers, I find it strange that there is no record of the marriage on Scotland's People. I would like to know if the George Scott of the marriage is the same George Scott who is in my family tree, but I need a marriage certificate to help. Can anyone help me as to why the record shows on Ancestry but not on Scotland's People.

Michael Fitzgerald, born 1771 Cork, Ireland
Hi all,
I'm new to the forum so if this is the wrong place to post this my apologies. In fact, I'm new to building my tree, a week in, and have already found some interesting stories and characters.
Pretty much the moment I left Australia on a small slice of my family tree the trail has gone cold. I've managed to find out a fair bit about Michael Fitzgerald but cannot find his parents to forge beyond, here's a snapshot:
Michael Fitzgerald was born in 1771 in Cork, Ireland. Convicted of being a rebel and sentenced to life, he was deported to Australia on the Minerva as a convict arriving in 1800 and later pardoned in 1810. He married Mary Wood in 1811 in Launceston, Tasmania. They had one child during their marriage, Maria Jane, born 1811. He died in Tasmania.
Michael was my Great (x6) Grandfather on my Mothers side. Hoping Michael is a part of a family tree of someone here to gain some clues.

census challange, only a road name

I have a house in a street called Swete Street in Plaistow London.
Parish West Ham.
c1860 it is a large house on the street (only building showing on the map)
After 1869, Swete Street starts getting its Victorian terraced houses built along it
I do know that in the 1970's my friend (surname suckling) lived there and that it was of a construction far older than the Victorian Terraced houses either side of it.
her number was number 59 and it was created by the splitting of the large building that had been on its own on the 1860 map into two separate dwellings (nos. 57 and 59).
What I'm trying to find out is what was the purpose of the original building (a farm perhaps?)
And can it be found on the early census' (1841, 51, 61), to give any clues to its original purpose?
Plus any census results for number 30 Swete Street (my childhood house), which was built around 1890 ish

i'm trying (it appears in vain) to locate apprenticeship records for my 5th great grandfather stephen morton (c.1775-1844). the first record i have is a marriage at st george hanover square in 1800 to anne evans. they susequently spent their lives in the westmnster area. the 1841 census says "not born in county" but i've always been sceptical of that.
i know from later records (1817 baptisms, census and death cert) that he was a shoemaker. i guess he may have apprenticed elsewhere if he was true in not being from london.
i've found an apprenticeship of a "stephen morton aged 14 (b.1774) years to alex pringle, boatswain of the frigate concord, of 36 guns now lying at chatham kent until 21 years of age" dated 28 jun 1787.
is it a possibility he may have worked on ships then became a shoe maker at a later date?
i'm really struggling to find anything on him pre 1800.

merchant seaman records
how do i make sense of merchant seaman records on FMP?
i've found a stephen morton b.1837 (one) and two b.1838, all london. i suspect he is my man, but i can't understand what the records mean? are they referring to where he was or the ship's name? the records only go up to 1854, how might i trace this man after that?

Ireland's historical registers of birth, marriage and death go online
Great excitement - these have gone online a day earlier than expected so I can see how today is going to pan out. Below is the update from Claire Santry's invaluable blog:
"The General Register Office of Ireland's historical civil registers of birth, marriage and death have been uploaded to the free state-run IrishGenealogy.ie.
As anticipated, they follow the 100-75-50years access rule and they are free. If the index entry gives you the option of an image, you download a pdf of the full register page in which that birth, marriage or death certificate appears.
While this seems to be working fine for all indexed entries that had been assigned the GRO's Group Registration ID (GRID), I'm not getting access to any images for those without a GRID. As far as I can see from my early kick-around, all the births from 1864 have a GRID, so should be complete. Marriages before 1886 do not seem to have GRIDs so are not accompanied by an image, and the same goes for deaths from about 1880.
Whether these will appear later, I don't know. Hopefully the site's Help pages will be updated without too much delay so that we can be sure what we've got."

Researching a particularly tricky family from Germany that came to Birmingham, AL around 1911.
Frank & Sibilla (Sybella,Syvella are just some of the mispellings) Schultz (sometimes spelled at Schulz, Shultze, & Schultze) are very tricky to find documents on!
I know he was born in 1883 somewhere in Germany and that is fathers name is John. He married Sibilla in Germany around 1907 and he died in the 1950`s.
She was born around 1887 in Germany and died at age 89 in August of 1975.
They had many children, two when they came to the US.
They never left the Birmingham, AL area once settled in the US.
Any help or suggestions are much appreciated!

Can anyone help please. Looking for a friend - her great grandad was a Charles Stephen Friedman (or Freedman and the family then became Freeman - friend thought Freeman was his name). She had family story he was from Sweden, possibly a Jew from Russia orignally.
Ive had a look and yes, found a Charles Friedman in 1861 on an english boat as crew off Flamborough Head born about 1841 in Gothenburg, Sweden. He marries a Susanna Speakman in Leeds in 1872 as Charles Freedman (I cant find him in 1871 - may be on a boat again). He marries in the parish church, so apparently not a practicing Jew.
He is naturalised by 1891 (in the 1881 he is still shown born Sweden, no mention of naturalisation til the 1891).
I would love to find more about him for the friend. On ancestry some one has him in their tree and has added a father "Erich" but no other detail. Ive tried looking on NA for naturalisation record but no luck.
Any ideas please?

In the 1851 Census for my 3x Great Grandparents John & Susannah Phillips there is a 6 year old Elizabeth Farison, the name has been corrected to Fairburn which was Susannah's maiden name, well a variation of it anyway.
Using the name Elizabeth Fairburn & the soundex option in FreeReg I did get a hit with a Baptism in Great Stainton, 1844 as the daughter of Ann Fairburn but this person isn't in my tree yet and I've not been able to find anything further.
Does anyone fancy a little quest to help narrow down who Ann may be to find out what Elizabeth's connection may be?
Susannah herself was born in 1817, Bishopton to Thomas Fairburns/Fairbairns/Fairbairnes & Phyllis Luke and Thomas did have another wife named Sarah Whitfield who might have died in childbirth in 1811.

MIL Prov Staff Corps

Hi all,
Wonder if there is any military experts among you that might be able to find some info for me?
My grandfather served with the royal tank corps from 1926 - 1946. One day after he was reassigned to the MIL Prov Staff Corps on the 15th jan 1946 stationed in NW Europe till dec 1947 then at home till march 1948. There are stories in the family that he was involved in the liberation of one of the camps, how likely is this? Is there any way that i can find out what he may have been doing during this time?

Alfred Durham c1834 Pudsey,Yorkshire

First post so hello to everybody.
I'm trying to locate an Alfred Durham born around 1834 in Pudsey, Yorkshire. I've tried numerous different searches on different websites to try and track him down. I can find him on the 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 census, always in Pudsey with his wife Hannah (Gaunt) who he married on the 15th April 1854. Prior to that I'm fairly sure that I have found him in the 1851 census, living with John & Mary Frankland in Bradford.
However, that's when the trail goes cold. I've tried all sorts of searches on FindMyPast, TheGenealogist, FamilySearch and the Calverley websites and come up empty.
To add to the confusion, I think there is another Alfred Durham born in 1833 (baptised on 19 June 1833 in Snaith, son of Joseph and Jane). He appears in the 1841 census in Snaith with his mother. I don't think this is the Alfred Durham that I am after because this Alfred Durham then disappears until 1871 when he re-appears in Snaith. In 1881 and 1891 he is still in Snaith and is married to Bridget so I've pretty much discounted him.
As an aside, I think that the Alfred Durham that I am after was also a census enumerator for Pudsey in 1881 as the Calverley website lists an Alfred Durham as the enumerator for RG11/4482 ED10 Folios 137-152. This might tie in with the fact that my Alfred Durham was a clerk in a woollen mill in 1881.
Can anybody help me out here or point me in a new direction (I have a subscription to FindMyPast and TheGenealogist but not Ancestry).

12 Jun 1918 Mile End my Great Grandmother Lydia Rose aged 45 married an Albert Ernest Comley age 56 a Widower, occupation Packer, Father Albert a Grave Digger.
I found them in 1939 so have his Birth Date which is 13 Nov 1861 I am trying to find where he was born and his family, problem is he is either Ernest Albert/Albert Ernest/Ernest Walter Comley, I only have him from the marriage.
The only Birth record which fits with the period is Ernest Walter born Dec quarter 1861 South Stoneham Hampshire which I have added to my tree for now but cannot find him with a Father Albert.
Also cannot find a likely death for his previous wife.
His Death in 1952 Poplar is registered under Ernest W Comley Born abt 1862 Age at Death 90
Anyone find him in 1871 1881 1891 1901 1911

I followed a link on another forum to Familysearch

which has a film of wills proved in the Lewes Consistory Court, there are 962 images (and I have looked at all of them over the past few days and found one made by a brother of one of OH's ancestors).
They go from probate date 1752 to 1757, but as the film title mentions 1527-1858 there may be some other images somewhere but I'm blowed if I can find any, can anyone point me in the right direction of how to search please?

Where is Jane and her daughter Sarah? Help please
Instead of doing some urgent paperwork to finish up G's business decided to go back to ancestry :)
Cant believe over 10 years ago seem to have abandoned a few of my Horsteads.
I have Jane Horstead born 1838 to James and Mary Ann Horstead (my GGPx2) in Ratcliffe, Middx
She marries a man called George William Stapleton 1 May 1859 in Holborn. In 1861 she is alone working as a servant in Woodford Essex, noted as a widow :( A daughter, Sarah Jane born 1860 is living with grandparents back in east end.
Can anyone see either of them after the 1861 please? Ive tried looking for a marriage for a Jane stapleton and there are lots but following through the likely ones in London area, cant seem to find a match or a kiddie called Sarah with them - cant find a definite marriage for the girl Sarah either born 1860.
Any help gratefully received as I dont have the brain power or tenacity I had a decade ago.

Time allowed to register birth
I was trying to remember how long they had to register birth before a fine kicked in. Was it 6 weeks guys? Just talking to a friend recently and she mentioned how when her dad claimed his pension they said he was 4 weeks too early. Im guessing this was a case of mum changing his birth date to avoid the fine.

Is it me or have Ancestry changed the name of the old Free BDM to Civil Registration? I'm looking all over for those records that I saw yesterday under the free header and now it says Civil Registration.

Mums cousin died a few years ago and she is left and equal share with his cousins, we were hoping that she would inherit so that it would pay for her care at the moment but this is dragging on and on. Just spoke to the solicitor and he said they employed a professional genealogist to track down 2 cousins on his other side of the family. Just wondering if anybody on here would be able to beat them to it!!!!!

Intermittent computer connection.

For the last few days I have been losing my internet connection on my desktop computer. I keep getting a pop up saying that a network connection is unplugged! Have check all cables and all seem ok. Because of this using the desktop is nigh impossible. Am on iPad at the moment which has no problems. Am with Virgin for broadband and desktop is using Windows XP.
Anyone any ideas?

If any one fancies a challenge, I am completely stuck with this (although some one will probably come up with something really obvious that I have missed!)
In 1871 (RG10-570-F14-P23) I have:-
Susan Blunt, Head, 27 (mistranscribed as 29), unmarried, born Wotton, Bucks
Mary Jane Blunt, Daughter, 4, born Bromley, Middlesex
George Hodges, Visitor, Wid (with something else I can't read), 27, born Bromley, Middlesex.
I then have a marriage for Susan and George 11 Jul 1871 Bethnal Green.
In 1881 (RG11-494-F123-P22) Susan and George are together with no children.
In 1891 (RG12-320-F116-P39) They have Violet Ann Hodges, granddaughter 10 months born Bromley London with them.
I think I have found the birth reg for Mary Jane, but I can't find her anywhere after 1871, and I can't find any record for Violet (searching both Hodges and Blunt), and I can't find any of them in 1911.
I don't need Susan prior to 1871 (I have her with her parents), but I really want to know who Violet belongs to and what happened to Mary Jane.

These are not my family members, they are connected to my 2nd cousin's mother's family in a parcel of papers and photos. Nothing on the back. My 2nd cousin's mother was from Nottingham, her maiden name was Grainger but she didn't have an aunt Sarah.
Any idea of the regiment? Can't quite see the cap badge though he's dressed very like my granddad who was in the Royal Field Artillery - I can see spurs. There's a badge on his cuff too.

Opinions please - different fathers name marriage/birth cert
I've been kickstarted back into my research :)
I've had a brick wall for some time, and finally decided to start chipping away at it.
I've been looking for a marriage in Liverpool for a Charles Redmond/Mary Kenny, and came to the conclusion that either (a) they married in Ireland, or (b) Mary invented a husband to save the stigma of admitting she had an illegitimate child.
(I haven't been able to find a marriage in Ireland either, but that might be down to lack of online records)
I have found what could be the right marriage, but the man is named PATRICK, not Charles. Could this be the right one, and if so, why change his name?
Full story/details.
Working backwards, from census info & his marriage certificate, we have a Joseph Redmond who was born 1855/6 with a father Charles, a mariner.
Joseph moved to the Tyldesley area & was a coal miner. He consistently said he was born in Liverpool.
There are 2 births around the right date, one in Manchester & one in Liverpool.
In 1861 he is living with his mother in Callows Terrace Liverpool, and Mary says she is a widow. Ancestry has transcribed this as Redman but I'm pretty sure its the right people.
I've not been able to find Charles anywhere.
In 1871 the Joseph [Redman] who I think is my chap is working in a colliery & boarding in Shevington, but the age is a year out.
The other Joseph was an upholsterer. On the 1871 census he is a boarder in Liverpool - this census says he is also born in Liverpool. He died in 1879 (reported in the Liverpool Mercury 24 Feb 1979)
The birth certificate for Joseph Redmond born in Liverpool in March 1856 names father Charles Redmond, mother Mary Kenny. Charles is a mariner & the birth was at 76 Hornby St, Liverpool. I have not found a baptism for him but I suspect his parents were Catholic so the records aren't online.
The marriage certificate I've just received is Patrick Redmond, mariner, father Joseph Redmond, a painter & glazier. They married by licence in St Paul's, Liverpool, on 14 June 1855.
Both were living at 23 Hornby St at the time of marriage. (No great coincidence: it was a very heavily populated area) The witnesses are Hargreaves Woollacott and Mary Shaw, no obvious connection.
There is a possible death registration for a Patrick Redmond in Liverpool in Dec 1856, which is on order.
This does shed some light on the problem but poses more questions.
Patrick's father is named Joseph so its understandable that he'd name his firstborn after him.
But I can't think of an obvious reason why someone would marry as Patrick but be known in his daily life as Charles.
Its understandable that Joseph never knew his father (assuming the 1856 death is the right person) but his mother Mary registered the birth and this is 9 months after their marriage so you'd think she'd remember her husband's name! Joseph obviously thought his father was called Charles as he named his firstborn son after him.
So do you think this is the right marriage or do I put away my pickaxe for another day?

drunken man and blind horse
in a newspaper artical i have being told there was a piece on,
benjamin whitehead being in charge of a horse and cart at honily in warwickshire it went to the warwickshire court assizes where he was charged with being drunk while in charge of a horse. the policeman who arrested him had evidently done so numerous times because benjamin whitehead seemed to know him. i have searched in vain for this newspaper artical . can anybody help please i dont have a date but believe it would have being the late 1800s.

Canadian Research help please
Any help would be welcomed please on my grandfathers sister who left the West Midlands for Ontario (believed) around 1905. Her name was Eliza or Elizabeth Lunn and she is thought to be Ward by marriage. She died in 1925. She had a daughter Florence Gertrude Ward who died in 1989.
Eliza left terrible poverty in the West Midlands, I am hoping she had a better life in Canada.

Alexander Dickenson 1876
Alexander Dickenson was b.1876 J.A.S qtr West Derby Liverpool
After his father Joseph's death in 1879 Alexander went to live with his Grandparents Miles & Ann Amelia
Dickenson.Miles was a Prim.Methodist Minister who moved to various stations of his circuit.
I know that Alexander was shown as living with his Grandparents on the 1881c at Cambrian Crescent Chester St Oswalds RG11 3560/43.In the 1891c he is living at Laurel Grove Ormskirk RG12 3039/120 with his Grandad & Gt.Aunt Susannah (mistranscribed as Miles Wife).
Alexander is 14 & working as a Post Office Clerk.
I have some very sketchy notes which state that Alexander m.Charlotte Elizabeth R. Harding when he was 23 & lived at Birkdale still working as a Post Office Clerk.I also have him as a Carpenter.
I am now needing to know more about Alexander who was my Gt Grandmother Margaret Dickensons brother.

With new credits and new inspiration, I've started to investigate my great x4 grandparents:
Isobel WHYTE (OTP) and Charles SPENCE (Marnoch) married in 1798 in Turriff.
They had several children in Marnoch over the years:

Isobel and Charles are living together, alone, in the 1841 census in Marnoch.
I didn't find Isobel in the 1851.
There is a Charles Spence, Boarder in Turriff in the 1851, staying with Elizabeth Alexander, Pauper & Head of household. I know of no relationship from mine to Alexanders.
That Charles Spence died in 1855. In both the 1851 and the DC he is listed as a Chelsea Pensioner. I don't know that I think that is consistent with the baptism records of Charles and Isobel? So I don't think he's mine.
So, I'm thinking that Charles and Isobel died between the two censuses. I suppose they might have immigrated??? Their daughter from whom I'm descended did not leave until the mid-1850s.
I can't find burials or DCs for them, but I'll start double checking my work.

Wondering if someone can help with a lookup.
This has been a long time mystery for me and I haven't had much luck.
I am trying to establish where the following family members were born/baptised most likely in Colchester - Essex in UK.
Lingwood Toovey abt 1828
Emily Toovey abt 1830
William Toovey abt 1833
Parents of these children were Richard Duppa Toovey and Sarah Whitaker Toovey (formally Lingwood)
They were married Colchester Essex in !821.
Any help appreciated.
