Is this the correct marriage?

I have a couple, John Joseph and Sophia Blunt on all censuses from 1881 to 1911. He was born c1850 and was a packer or other labourer on every census, and in 1911 they were married 37 years.

In 1861 John was in the Shorditch workhouse as an orphan, and in 1851 he was with his parents; his father was Thomas and he was a carman.

I have been trying to find a marriage to find Sophia's maiden name, but I can only find one, 15 Feb 1874 in Stepney that even remotely fits. Sophia is Chaple, but John's father is John, not Thomas, and he is a billiard table maker and his father a cabinet maker (image available on Ancestry). No other clues in the addresses or witnesses.

So, is the right marriage, or are the occupations and father's name too far out?

I have in my tree a 3x great uncle Thomas Peer, who married in Bedford Q3 1837. I know from censuses that he married Sarah but there are two Sarahs on the GRO index page and I had no clue as to which one it was. her maiden name has been ------ in my tree for years!

Just now I decided to look in newspapers for Thomas Peer of Bedford (not a common name) and what did I find???? A long report of the marriage between Thomas Peer and Sarah Sletcher on 18th July 1837. The reason for the report (and the over 300 people reported to attend the wedding) was that it was the very first marriage to take place in the Dissenters' Meeting House in Mill Street, Bedford under the new Marriage Act. Reported in the Bedfordshire Mercury 22 July 1837.

Ancestry v FMP tree layout

Advice please - can i get the FMP tree layout to look like the one on Ancestry? i.e 6 generations of the family showing on both sides? I can't seem to do that with FMP and it frustrates me as I don't have a full picture - any suggestions greatly appreciated

Grandfather's naval records

Years ago I got someone to check out Grandfathers merchant and royal naval records at the national archives.

I never met him as he died of pneumonia in 1929 but my nan always had a large glass display with a ship in it and my mum said it was of his ship at the Battle of Jutland. Now my sister has become interested in this as of course the Jutland Battle is on tv a lot now.

She has asked me to find the name of Grandfathers ship but Im having trouble doing it as I can find a couple of ship names on his records but some have just a sort of reference number and I wondered if anyone knows what this means, if anything please?

For instance: This record shows ship name as 13 S.S.S. (I assume thats steam ship? as he was a leading stoker)

1939 transcription errors

Just flagging up the bad error I found today. A whole page has partly 'slipped' by one line meaning that birth dates are for the next person down and each household has someone from the next one in it, mostly the head of the next household tagged on the end! I have submitted corrections for the ones that relate to my family but haven't the time or inclination to do the whole page!

I thought it was odd I couldn't find my family. Just posting it here in case it helps anyone else.

Marguerite/Maggie Paquette - abt 1890 Hawkesbury/Vankleek Hill Ontario

Hello!

I am looking for the origins of my husband's great-grandmother Marguerite / Margaret / Maggie Paquette (m. Pierre/Peter Seguin 24 June 1907 or 1908 Hawkesbury Ontario).

She was born between 1889-1891, to Joseph Paquette (b. 1865 in West Hawkesbury) and Valerie Monette (b. July 1871 in L'Orignal) who were married 2 Aug 1886 in Vankleek Hill.

Joseph Paquette's parents were Thomas Paquette (b. abt 1833 in Ontario) and Matilda Deshaitres (b. abt 1841 Ontario). Matilda's name is variously read on different documents as Domethilde/Domitille/Mathilde/Matilda and Deshaitres/Destutus/De****ies/Dabetre.

Valerie's parents were Paul Monette and Sophie Boileau (no additional info).

The Paquettes appear in various census years in Hawkesbury/Vankleek, and I have information on Marguerite's and Joseph's siblings, but I can't trace the ancestors any farther back.

Is there anyone out there with any additional information? Marguerite was probably of First Nations or Metis descent, is this why I am having trouble finding further records?

searching family tree has given a lot of answers to my history but one thing confuses me
Andrew and Alice supposedly married in 1886 I Wentworth I cant verify this with documents
yet the birth certificate for hazel may (my grandmother born 1899) states illegitimate and mother as spinster and gives her surname as Sheridan
children born before her are refered to as either Coles or Sheridan and on my fathers birth certificate she gives her maiden name as Coles
I cant think of a sensible reason for the various versions unless it was an attempt to cover for living together
any ideas or suggestions on a way to clarify

I am trying to clarify a marriage between Denis Callaghan born 1854 in Monmouthshire and Mary Sullivan (o Sullivan) born 1856 in Monmouthshire.
The birth cert for my grandfather (Sydney William Callaghan ) born 1892 in glebe NSW give his parents (above) as married 18/1/1872 in Monmouthshire
I have been given information from another grandchild of Denis and Mary that they married in St Laurence church south Australia 29/1/1877
he gave me a Reg Num of 110/436

Hi guys, new poster. I'm trying to find Scottish census and baptismal records for my second great grandmother Mary Ann Muldoon Joyce family in Scotland. I know that her parents William Muldoon and Sarah Lillie were born in County Fermanagh due ot my research on that surname and an obituary of her brother that lists Enniskillen as his place of birth. I very much believe that on Ancestry.com I've found copies of baptismal records for two of her brothers that say Glasgow, Lanark, High Church. I also believe I've found the immigration record of Mary, her mother, two brothers(William and Thomas), and a sister.(Elizabeth). Any advice? I've also had no luck finding her marriage certificate to my second great grandfather William Joyce but have had luck finding the marriage records of her brothers and sisters in the US.

Hi all, this is my first post. Hugh McKenna, last known location was Peoria, Illinois USA in 1926. Appeared to be studying for the medical profession and story was he became a doctor. I am trying to locate my great grandfather Charles Gardner who I am assuming was born around 1880 to 1890.

i only have a photograph of him taken in the Navy. this photo I have is over 100 years old as I do know that his best friend Charles Albert Birks who is also on the photograph died in the Battle of Jutland in 1916. However my family have told me that Charles Gardner did visit our home town of Hull to speak to Birks wife after his death. Assuming this is right this would mean that he either was not in the Battle of Jutland or simply was a survivor.

i am also told that he was from London, again I am unable to confirm or deny this. All of my research has provided me with lots of Charles Gardners and unfortunately I do not know which one it is.

my one last hope is that someone will recognise him from my photo.

So if anyone has a Charles Gardner born around 1880 to 1890 from the London area who was in the Royal Navy Or know he had connections to Hull I would greatly appreciate it if they would contact me and I would forward the photo. ( I am unsure if I can post this photo on this thread)

John Staples and Clothilde Breton, married 1889 Levis QC

Hello! I am trying to track down the life and relatives of John Staples (b. 1865, married to Clolthilde/Clotilde Breton). I understand he was born to William Staples and Jane Kirkwood, as I once had a quick glimpse of the Drouin Records for his parents marriage in 1863 Quebec (suggesting that although he is listed as English-speaking in the census, his family was Roman Catholic). I have a lot of information on Clotilde's side of the family and am a little stuck on the Staples side without current access to the Drouin records. Can anyone help me?

Alice Staples b. 1895 Thetford Mines QC
John William Staples 1896-1897 Thetford Mines QC
Frederic Charles Staples 1897-1898 Thetford Mines QC
Robert William Staples b. 1900 Thetford Mines QC (m. Isabel Irene White in Halifax, 1925)
Edward Albert Staples b. 1901 Thetford Mines QC
Alfred Joseph Staples b. 1903 Thetford Mines QC (m. Eileen Catherine Mulligan in Halifax, 1925)

John died sometime between 1901 when he is listed as the head of the family in Thetford Mines, and 1911 when Clotilde is living with her young sons in Montreal and working as a domestic servant. The daughters would be 19 and 16 by this year and so are either married, working elsewhere, living with other relatives, or deceased.

Family lore has it that either Alfred or Edward moved away to the US to live with "a rich uncle", but I am not sure if this is on the Staples or Breton side, or where in the US. Additionally, "rich" may be a relative term, since the Staples/Breton family made between $200-$350/year. :-)

NY Research

I am at a brick wall researching the Bucceri family of Italy and New York

Elia Bucceri was born 1930 in NY to an Anthony Bucceri, born abt 1899 in Italy, supposedly came through Ellis Island. That is all I know.

I cannot find ANY census records - can you help me?

Sorry, but I cant remember how .............

My son has recently moved into an old cottage in Wymondham, Norfolk and Id love to find out who lived there previously. Its a terraced cottage but there are four in the row, including his, which seem a lot older than the other mid Victorian cottages in the row. The inside is very heavily beamed, inglenook and cupboard door opening to staircase.

When I used to be researching daily I knew how to find a road on a census but now Im faffing about and still ending up having to go through pages in the little town.

Can anyone please remind me the best way to check out the census for this cottage - although appreciate that the numbering system may well throw me, rather counting on the cottage a few doors up which clearly was a shop of some sort at one time to guide me to likely cottage if its not numbered.
